When I visited the Innuos room at AXPONA 2022 to demo the Innuos Statement NEXTGEN music server, it was much like the very first Innuos room I visited back at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Each of Innuos’ various servers and network switches and outboard power supplies, along with a fine selection of headphones, were lined up on a single table where show attendees could go up and down the line, from the Zen Mini to the awesome Innuos Statement, and listen to each and every improvement.
Innuos music servers from Portugal are well regarded around PTA headquarters. Dave McNair uses a Zen Mini, and Scot Hull uses the flagship Innuos Statement. I reviewed the Innuos Zen Mini Mk. 3 with the upgraded power supply next year, and that’s when I realized I finally had a solution to my out-of-control CD collection. In fact, I’m arranging a review of the Innuos Zen music server, the next step up from the Zen Mini, as we speak.
The big news at Innuos, however, was in the next room. The Innuos Statement NEXTGEN has received a new and improved NEXTGEN power supply upgrade which pushes the performance even further upward. Innuos had assembled a demo system, complete with YG Acoustics Vantage speakers, and had two Innuos Statements hooked up–one with the new power supply and one without.
Despite the fact that the original Innuos Statement is already a stunning music server, A/B comparisons between the two servers were very revealing. The new power supply upgrade increases dynamic contrasts and makes the silence between the notes even more black and still and impressive. Overall I heard a cleaner presentation, one that was hard to deny and, ultimately, pass up. If you already have a Innuos Statement, you should probably check out the Innuos Statement NEXTGEN because of that new sonic edge.
As for me, I aspire to own something like the Innuos Statement NEXTGEN one day, but the Zen Mini Mk. 3 was so eye-opening in terms of my digital apprenticeship that I can’t help but think that my CD collection’s days are numbered. Bring on the Zen!
