Ever heard of the myth that plasma tweeters are harsh? That they present sibilance? Lean? What about class D amps being sterile sounding machines?
The Lansche Audio 5.1 driven by the Mola Mola Makua-Kaluga combo (x4 monos) with EMM Labs DAC was among the finest sounding systems in the Munich show. It excelled in imaging and macro-dynamics without the use of half a dozen of subwoofers. No sign of class D fatigue, no get-me-out-of-this-room sensation.
For the record, Artesania Audio provided the beautiful racks built from stainless steel and multiple layers of glass that blended with the modern looks of the rest of the system.
Actually, I enjoyed this room very much. Rüdiger Lansche was very friendly and let me skip the famous Krall torture (try listening to 20 rooms all playing Krall and you will understand my point), so we listened to Radka Toneff singing “Moon’s a Harsh Mistress”. Voice was magnificent and piano background seemed at least 3 feet deeper in the recording stage.
On our way out I asked Rudiger to stand next to his reference speaker, the semi-active 8.2, just to give you an idea of how big a BIG speaker can be (top photo). I’m glad he didn’t use this behemoth during the show, too many designers brought huge speakers that besides being way too expensive, sounded “not so well” in the show rooms because of the acoustics.
