CanJam SoCal 2016: Puro is pure joy

Seal_FINAL_CanJamSoCal2016You don’t always run across something actually relevant at an audio show, but this year’s CanJam almost saw me as a +2 — I was “this close” to bringing my 9-year-old twins along as my beasts-of-burden.

It’s kind of a natural fit — they love “everything hotel”, toys, and music. Where better to distract them then a head-fi meet?

But while I couldn’t quite make the logistics work out — John Wayne Airport is convenient to no one and nothing — Puro reminded me that I really ought to be paying more attention to the things that hit my kids’ ears. Like volume-limited headphones.

This is serious, actually — hearing loss, once lost, is gone forever. So, thoughtful parents (not me, apparently) will be sure to get their kids some cans that do not go to 11. But still sound good. And look good. And don’t cost a bloody fortune. Which is precisely where Puro steps in.

The BT2200 ($79.99, available direct or via Amazon) is also called the “Studio Grade Children’s Bluetooth Headphones”. The primary difference between and their BT5200 Studio Grade Adult Bluetooth Wireless Headphones ($129, available direct or via Amazon) is the built-in volume limiter (limited to 85dB — but while standard on the kids’, this is an option for the adults’). Both of these on-ear headphones are Bluetooth 4.0 compliant (only the adult version supports aptX, however), and both get 18 hours of battery life/playback time (the adults get 24 hours, because they’re very slightly bigger).

The sound quality is pretty good for this price category, but it really is the build quality that sets either of these headphones apart from their peers in this price category. These things are hawt and that soft leather and shiny metal is very lux. They’re almost more fun to fondle than to wear. Kids will love ’em. I know mine would!

Which is why I’m not showing them to my little monsters. Nooope. Well … Maybe when they’re twelve.
